January 22, 2007 on 3:56 pm | In Everything Else, Whats New to AdsBay | No Comments

Sorry there has been no updates on the blog the last month or so, but we have been going full out in the development of AdsBay, which has proved rather exciting. About a week ago AdsBay went though a massive upgrade, which saw the addition of many new features, some of the more noticeable are listed below:

  • AdsBay Classifieds – Now service providers can advertise there services directly on AdsBay, without having to setup an auction. This allows them to promote all their packages from one listing rather than only allowing them to sell one services at a time.
  • New Members Area – The members area has a completely new layout, which was needed to accommodate for the many additional features, and also allows each member to customise various aspects of it.
  • AdsBay Community – The new AdsBay Community comprises of various features, including; a forum, clubs, chat rooms and blogs.
  • Forum – Allows members to interact with each other, allowing them to exchange tips and advice, discuss current market trends and the current market situation and more.
  • Clubs – Allows members to start and run various clubs, allowing them to build up a mini community of like minded people all interested in the same topics.
  • Chat Rooms – Allows members to chat live with other AdsBay members.
  • Blogs – Members now have the option to start their own blog on AdsBay, these blogs can be used to further promote a members listings and allows members to basically share there experiences and just talk about anything really.
  • My Messages System – Now all messages sent through AdsBay are stored and can be tracked by a member in the members area, helping to keep track of buying and selling activities.
  • Dispute Console – AdsBay now has a dispute area where members that are experiencing problems can come to try and resolve them. This is the last point of call when all other attempts at a solution have failed.
  • Affiliate Program – Members can now promote AdsBay using the provided affiliate link, which will allow them to earn additional credit to use on AdsBay.
  • Reverse Auctions – Members now have the ability to place reverse auctions. This allows members that require a specific type of advertising medium, with a specific spec to place a reverse auction and allowing publishers to bid for your custom. This type of auction also works well for member needing a service.
  • Many new item promotional features have been added
  • AdsBay and each member now have their own custom RSS feed for the auctions they are currently running.
  • And there are many more, smaller changes and additions, with many more to come…

We hope you all find all these new additions very useful as we are sure you will.

The third generation of the Link Ad Price Calculator has just been Released!

December 19, 2006 on 9:21 pm | In Web Based Link Ad Price Calculator | No Comments

The algorithm has had several tweaks, including one major enhancement, which has improved the accuracy of the calculated values. Previously, there where several jumps in the estimated prices, when certain criteria only changed slightly. These jumps were caused due to the method being used in one particular section of the algorithm. This part of the algorithm has been completely rewritten and various other parts have been optimised, so now the link ad price calculator is giving the most accurate estimates ever!

Please be aware that some people may find that there are some quite large changes in the prices they previously calculated and the value that the third generation calculator is now producing. This will be because your site was probably sitting very close to one of the boundaries of one of the “jumps”, mentioned earlier. Please be rest assured that the new value you are now receiving is a much better estimate of the worth of the advertising space.

Why does the calculator give me a lower value for my ads when I select more ads on the page?

October 3, 2006 on 12:45 am | In Common Questions about the Calculator | No Comments

The calculator only calculates the value of one link at any time, so if there is only one ad on your website then it is worth more than if there were 6 or 10 (this is because there is a greater competition between the ads).

If you want to calculate what all the ads on your site are worth you need to select each area the ad will be placed separately (with all the other settings the same) and record the generated values of each (Hint: You should have the same number of values as the number selected in the “Number of ads on page” field) and then add them all up. This will then give you the estimated value of all the ad space on your website.

Factors Used to Calculate the Worth of the Advertising Space

September 3, 2006 on 8:16 pm | In Web Based Link Ad Price Calculator | No Comments

The AdsBay Link Ad Price Calculator considers the following factors when calculating the ad values:

  • Google Page Rank – The Google page rank is factored in, but it has very little effect. The higher the Page Rank the higher the calculated value will be.
  • Traffic of the website – The traffic is determined by the Alexa Rank of the site, so the lower the Alexa Rank the higher the calculated value will be.
  • Link popularity of the website – The more links the greater the calculated value will be.
  • Number of Ads on the page – If there are many ads on one page, the value of each ad decreases, so the lower the calculated value will be.
  • Target Market of the Website – Some website categories have a greater demand for advertising, which increases the worth of that advertising space.
  • Static link or Dynamic link – If the link is static it help with, off page, search engine optimisation, which puts a greater value on that ad.
  • Single Page or Site Wide – If an ad is displayed throughout a site, it is more likely to be seen and therefore has a greater advertising value.
  • Text or Graphic Ad – Graphic ads are worth a bit more than text ads.
  • Location of the Advert – Different locations on a webpage are viewed a different amount and so they are worth different amounts.

All the information, used in the calculation, is gathered from the form that you fill in and from Google, Yahoo!, AllTheWeb, AltaVista, and Alexa. All these sources are used so that the estimated value is as accurate as possible.

Some General Information About the Link Ad Price Calculator Tool (but not the juicy stuff, Yet)

September 3, 2006 on 5:59 pm | In Web Based Link Ad Price Calculator | No Comments

Now its time to give everyone some more information about this new and exciting advertising price calculator tool; I think the best place to start, is telling people why this tool was developed in the first place and why it would be useful.

This tool was developed because one of the hardest questions to answer, when it comes to buying and selling advertising space is; “what is this advertising space worth?”, and this question is asked by both the buyers and the sellers of advertising space. So this tool was developed to help answer this question.

Then you might say, “why develop a tool like this, when there are already several similar tools on the web?”, well the answer is simple, before we started developing this tool we tested many of the other similar tools available and found them all to be flawed in some way. Most where found to just simply be inaccurate in some way; they would ether give estimates that where too low or too high or they would give estimates which where almost correct for most websites, but then completely underestimate the values of other websites. From this research it was clear to us that a better solution was needed and so we set out to develop the Link ad price calculator tool.

The Link ad price calculator tool is the most advanced tool of its kind, currently on the web; it uses more factors, to calculate the value of advertising space, than any other tool currently available, which enables it to give the most accurate estimates.

This Link ad price calculator tool does not round values up or down; it just gives the correct value to two decimal places, whereas other similar tools seem to round the values to a near specific amount, for websites that in most cases are very different.

In the next post I will give more information on exactly what factors it uses to calculate the values it does.
